Another Exciting Mickey Mathews Mystery - by Gary G. Russell

Gary G Russell on Jul 02, 2021

I never miss one of Jim Sargent’s thrillers in his Mickey Mathews Mysteries series and I am never disappointed. This book presents a new set of intrigues and new venues while providing the familiarity of vicariously walking in the shoes of the heroes who have become like old friends. The Frightened Physicists comprises one exciting encounter after another within the context of a variety of meaningful human relationships. As always, I enjoyed it from start to finish.

Another Real Hoot! - by Scott Matthews

Scott Matthews on Jul 21, 2021

I just finished reading "The Frightened Physicists", the latest adventure in the Mickey Matthews mystery series. Much as in Mickey's previous perils, it was like settling in to read about another fun time with some old friends - Mickey and his buddies setting out for their next rousing good time. This time the adventure took place on a moving train. As with Mickey's previous exploits, the author's attention to factual and historic detail helped immeasurably to augment the realism and the enjoyment of the story. It was just as if I were there on the train with them - I could "see" the whole thing. And as I concluded in others of Mickey's adventures, the plot had more twists and turns than a hound dog's hind leg so there was always some anticipation as to what is going to happen next. It is well worth the read and I can't wait for the next episode in the continuing saga of Mickey Mathews.

Fun Reading! - by Patrick Barry

Patrick Barry on Jul 26, 2021

I was introduced to the Mickey Mathews novels by the author himself. At a chance meeting several years ago in a northern Michigan vacation area, Jim and I learned we are both alumni of the same university. I have been on board with the Mickey Mathews series since the first novel. Getting to know the key characters and, in supporting roles, their wives has been enjoyable. It's fun seeing how they manage the many unexpected events. Jim does a good job of keeping me guessing about the final outcome of the adventure. One of Jim's strengths is setting the scene. He is very adept at describing the people, their actions and the physical space in which it takes place. Not being a writer myself, I appreciate his skill in doing so. The Mickey Mathews series has been very enjoyable. I look forward to the next one

Nowhere to Hide! - by Frank S. Harman

Frank S Harman on Aug 02, 2021

There’s a higher sense of intrigue when the characters are all confined to rail cars with Mickey and Frank on the case. Are the Russians trying to steal secret files? Are the boys protecting the wrong people? Is everyone FBI? Or nobody?

Frightened Physicists keeps you guessing and anxious about what is going to be on the next page. A really fun read.

The Excitement Continues - by Bob Gorman

Bob Gorman on Aug 07, 2021

The Frightened Physicists is the latest in the Mickey Mathews series and what a wonderful addition it is. This time our intrepid hero and his partner, Frank Tuttle, come to the aid of a damsel in distress whose husband, a physicist who worked on the Manhattan Project, is accused of selling atomic secrets to the Russians. Is he guilty of betraying his country or is he just a patsy for darker forces? Set in the early post-WW II period when U.S./Soviet relations have soured and the Cold War has commenced, it’s a thrilling adventure full of danger and narrow escapes. It’s the perfect read if you enjoy historical mysteries set during one of the most critical periods in American history.
